Check whether ChatGPT can read and cite your website.

The audit is free and needs no account. It reads your pages the way the crawlers behind ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google's AI Overviews do, then gives you a score and the files that fix what it finds.

It takes under a minute. We read up to 10 public pages of your site and keep the report for 24 hours. Search engines are told not to index it.

An example report for a made-up bakery website, written by the real CiteLead audit. Yours has the same parts.

How it works

The first two steps work today. The other two are in development.

  1. Enter your web address

We read up to 10 public pages the way AI crawlers do, starting with your robots.txt, sitemap and llms.txt.

  2. Get the fixes

Each finding comes with a plain explanation, and the audit writes the fix files for you: robots.txt, Organization structured data and an optional llms.txt.

  3. Publish answer pages

We will host one page for each real question your customers ask, on a subdomain of your site, built only from facts you confirm.

  4. See the leads

You will see which AI crawlers read your pages, which AI answers send you visitors and, once Stripe is connected, which of those visitors pay.

You choose how much access to give

Each level lets CiteLead do more for you, and you can stop at any of them. Level 0 works today. Levels 1 to 3 are in development.

  1. Level 0 Your web address

    You
    Enter your URL.
    CiteLead
Audits your site and writes the fix files.
  2. Level 1 One DNS record

    You
Point a subdomain such as answers.yoursite.com at CiteLead.
    CiteLead
Will host your answer pages there, submit them to search engines and log which AI crawlers and answers reach them.
  3. Level 2 A script tag and Stripe

    You
Paste one script tag and connect Stripe.
    CiteLead
Will follow AI-referred visitors to signups and revenue, page by page.
  4. Level 3 Your own tools

    You
Connect GitHub, your CMS, or your Cloudflare or Vercel logs.
    CiteLead
Will send fixes as pull requests for you to review, or publish to your CMS, and read AI crawler visits across your whole site.

What the audit checks

9 areas, each scored out of 100, plus llms.txt, which is shown but not scored. Whether answer engines can reach and read your pages weighs most in your AI-ready score, then whether your pages answer questions and give visitors a clear next step.

  • AI crawler access (robots.txt + firewall)

    Weight 25

Whether your robots.txt and your firewall let AI answer crawlers in.

  • Readable without JavaScript

    Weight 15

Whether your pages show their text without running JavaScript.

  • Indexability

    Weight 15

Whether your pages load and may be indexed: no stray noindex, no canonical pointing elsewhere.

  • Answer-shaped content

    Weight 13

Whether readers get the answer fast: headings phrased as the questions people ask, a direct answer in the first sentence under each, and sections that stand on their own. Good for readers first, not a Google rule.

  • Clear next step for visitors

    Weight 10

Whether a visitor sees one clear next step, such as book, buy or get in touch, early on the page, before scrolling.

  • Sitemap

    Weight 7

Whether a sitemap lists your pages with sensible dates, and your robots.txt points to it.

  • Consistent facts

    Weight 7

Whether your pages give the same number for the same thing.

  • Structured data (rich results + identity)

    Weight 5

Whether your structured data can make your pages eligible for rich results in Google Search and names your business the same way on every page: name, web address, logo and profiles.

  • Freshness signals

    Weight 3

Whether your pages say when they were published or updated, with dates that make sense.

  • llms.txt (informational, not scored)

    Not scored

Optional. Whether you publish an llms.txt, a Markdown summary of your site for tools that choose to read one. Google Search ignores it, so it neither helps nor hurts you there.

Use it where you work

We are bringing the same audit to the tools developers already use. None of them is out yet.

  • Command line

Audit any site from your terminal and save the report and fix files next to your code.

  • Coding-agent plugin

Your coding agent runs our checks and writes the fixes into your own repository for you to review.

  • GitHub Action

Checks every pull request and flags a change that blocks AI answer crawlers or breaks your structured data.

A niche streaming site grew ChatGPT visits from ~50 to ~1,100 a week in three months.

CiteLead is turning the method used there into a product. It writes one answer page for each real question, checks every fact before it goes out, and keeps its own logs of what AI crawlers read. We do not name the site.

Questions

What is CiteLead?

CiteLead helps websites get cited and recommended by AI answer engines such as ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews. Today it offers a free AI-readiness audit with ready-to-paste fix files. Hosted answer pages and lead tracking are in development.

Is the audit free?

Yes. It needs no account and no payment details. Enter your website address and you get the report.

What does the audit fetch from my site?

Only public pages: your robots.txt, your homepage, your sitemaps, your llms.txt if you have one, and up to 10 pages in all. It sends no cookies, never submits forms and obeys your robots.txt.

About our crawler

Do I need an llms.txt or schema markup to be cited by AI?

Not for Google. Google's guide to its generative AI features says you do not need llms.txt, AI text files or special schema.org markup to appear in Google Search, AI features included, and that Google Search ignores llms.txt. The audit still checks structured data, because it can make your pages eligible for rich results and states your business details the same way on every page. llms.txt is optional: we offer one for tools that choose to read it, and it is not part of your score.

Does the audit change anything on my site?

No. It only reads. You decide whether to use the fix files, and you publish them yourself.

Who can see my report?

A report is kept for 24 hours at an address made from your site's name, so anyone who knows that address can open it. Search engines are told not to index it.

How do I keep your crawler out?

Add two lines to your robots.txt: "User-agent: CiteLeadAudit" and "Disallow: /". The audit reads robots.txt before anything else.

What will CiteLead cost?

The audit is free. Hosted answer pages and lead tracking are in development, and their prices are not set yet.
